I have to admit that I am really surprised at how many gothic pinups are in the gallery already; nearly 350. And I haven't even begun to add all the ones I already have on my laptop :)

Anyways, I will continue adding more gothic pinups to the gallery several times a week while continuing to add gothic wallpapers too.

With about 300 hundred wallpapers in a folder on my desktop (screensaver), I though I would start uploading them to The Unclean gallery. So, I will be spending some time over the next couple of days adding posts to the Gothic Wallpaper Gallery.

Finally! I made some very drastic changes to The Unclean and now get to focus on one of my favorite resource features, the Directory.
With a huge, interactive Google Map, and an updated main page, I also a sideblock to show only the tags of posts in the directory. This should make it much easier to find things in the directory as it continues to grow.

Changing The Unclean

I have been making several design changes to the unclean lately, and now am making some changes to the permalinks and site structure.
Normally, it's a very bad idea to make changes to urls and (less so) to the structure. In this case, however, the previous settings were doing more harm then making the changes will. I also have a graceful, and playful, method to redirect visitors. I also allow visitors to add pictures from some of the gallery albums to other websites, which will not be impacted by the adjustments.
Over the past 8 months I have studied and learned a lot about SEO and internet marketing in general. In fact, it has become my primary field of study for the past 6 months, and I have been able to make some tremendous gains. So, I felt it was time to make the changes needed to bring my favorite project up to speed. Funny thing, before I ever began studying SEO and internet marketing, I custom designed the header and did it damn good :);

Increased Traffic, Better Traffic

It's been a little over a week since I made some major changes to TheUnclean.com and I have notice a large jump in both the visitor count and the page views per visitor. The site is now hovering above 1,100 page views per day.

The big adjustments to the gallery paid off quite well. The SuicideGirls section has jumped in viewers and not only are visitors getting there directly from search engines, but also from the modified navigation.

I have also noticed that my placement on Google, Yahoo! and MSN engines has increased significantly. I'm glad to see that the things I have learned/done for business websites translates to my niche of the woods quite well; proper SEO kicks ass. It feels so good now that I have the time to invest in my own work and make this happen.

The next set of big changes will be to the way that the video is viewed on the site; fun fun!

The Unclean design changes

I firmly believe that I will probably never be able to sit still when it comes to the design of my own projects. Although I am very happy with the overall layout of TheUnclean.com, I do seem some issues in the code and usability. So, I started by cleaning up some of the CSS and then making some changes to the site today.

Tools:
At the top every page are flag icons to translate the content into different languages. Now the site is readable in 11 languages! My native tongue is english, but I have noticed that there are many visitors whose browsers are set to a different default language. So, I picked out the top 10 and uploaded a great translation plugin. Just below the translation/flag icons, is the search box and links to login, check the archive and view the tags.
Since there are a number of posts throughout the site that do not have the sidebar, I wanted to make sure that user friendly tools were still available. Another reason for moving the tools to the top, was to replace the ugly ass 468x60 advertising banner. I don't need to fuck up the design off my website just to make a couple of pennies here and there.

Gallery
I have to admit, I really like the way I coded the updated layout for the galleries. When you first enter The Unclean Gallery you see some random thumbnails from the two existing galleries; one for fashion & style and the other dedicated to the suicidegirls. Just below these two groups of random images are some of the most recent additions. It came out much cleaner and easier to navigate then the original thumbnail layout I had used; and when I add more galleries, they will easily fit into the existing design.

I have some more code cleaning and may remove some plugins by adding functionality to the theme, but for now, I am happy with the changes. If you took a look at the site, and are familiar with either blogs or the gothic industrial community, post a comment and let me know what you think.

Corporate Slave no more!

I recently made a very risky, life changing decision. I quite my job.
Yes, I do know that the economy is doing very poorly and job loss is systemic and (imho) getting scary. But my own business is doing very well and if I don't take this chance and run with it, I just might regret it for the rest of my life.
Like most people, I do have lot's of obligations (financial, family, etc). And yet I will never forget that my first obligation is to myself. The reason for that thought isn't based on arrogance or selfishness. It comes from a very basic fact: If I succeed and do well, everyone around me will as well. But if I fail..well, we won't go there. There are lives that depend on every single things that I do. So it is more then just making money. I need to be healthy, focused, and accomplished. I need to be able to look my kids in the eyes and say, "if I can do it, so can you."
Sure, there is lots of pressure. Sure there is a lot to get done. But I know I can do this. I know it.
So, I'm taking a chance...on myself. I am a corporate slave no more!

It took me less then a minute, one simple test and it works! I added a small bit of code to the customized design of my Gallery so that anyone can cut and paste to add an image and it's tags to any other website. Works exactly like I wanted, weird! You can see an example posted at the bottom of this message.
Now, I need to spend the next many many hours uploading more Suicide Girls pictures to their album in the gallery; SuicideGirls.
